Mass Communications and Design students collaborate with PennDOT on safety programs
Posted 04/08/2019 01:19PM

The Department of Mass Communications and Design at Misericordia University recently collaborated with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Northeast Highway Safety Program to develop a series of flyers and a logo for regional transportation safety initiatives.

Misericordia University students in the student club, Service by Design, conceived the designs for the transportation safety flyers that were featured at regional transportation safety press conferences in Pittston and Wilkes-Barre prior to St. Patrick's Day in March. Student Sierra Crane of Troy designed the poster. The Northeast Highway Safety Program will feature the new logo, designed by student Bethany Jopling of Plains Twp., on literature distributed by the program.

Throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, PennDOT collaborates with regional colleges and universities on similar safety initiatives. The partnership provides hands-on experience for students with a real-world client, while also promoting transportation safety.

The Department of Mass Communications and Design at Misericordia University sponsors Service by Design. The student club provides creative graphic services for nonprofit organizations in the region. For more information about the services available, please contact Rachel Urbanowicz, M.A., assistant professor of Mass Communications and Design, at 570-674-8161.
