As one of the founding programs, Misericordia University's Nursing Department has been educating students in the field of nursing and serving the healthcare needs of the community for over 90 years. Misericordia continues this tradition today by offering a wide variety of programs and a seamless transition allowing students to progress from the undergraduate to graduate, and finally, the doctoral level.

The Nursing Departments at Misericordia University are an integral part of the College of Health Sciences and Education. The Assistant Dean/Chief Nurse Administrator, Annette Weiss, PhD, RN, CNE, works in conjunction with the Undergraduate Chair, Darlene Donnelly, PhD, RNC and the Graduate Chair, Pamela Dwyer, DNP, CRNP, NP-C. The nursing faculty supports the mission of the university and the principles of academic excellence, service leadership, and professional preparation which are components of the Trinity of Learning. The faculty is committed to providing quality education to its students, based on the values of mercy, service, justice, and hospitality. The beliefs serve as the foundation of the nursing curriculum.

Mission Statement


In preparing Baccalaureate, Masters, and Doctoral prepared educated nurses, the Nursing Department of the College of Health Sciences shares the mission of Misericordia University and embraces the values and attitudes of justice, mercy, service and hospitality. Specifically, the values and beliefs of nursing as a humanistic service continuing to embody the role of the professional nurse as a future leader. The nurse as a leader utilizes evidence-based decision making while adapting to change in a multicultural society. The professional nurse is envisioned as one who assumes an active and vital role as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the planning, provision, and evaluation of ethical, safe and humanistic care in a rapidly expanding health care technological system.




The baccalaureate degree program in nursing and the master's degree program in nursing at Misericordia University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791.



Misericordia University has legal permission from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners to operate a school of nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Various other state education departments also recognize the university’s academic programs.


Clinical Education Policies

Clinical Education Requirements
Accepted students must submit the following documentation prior to the start of the program:

  • FBI Background Check
  • State Background Check
  • Child Abuse Clearance
  • Health Physical to include documentation of immunizations, Tuberculin test and Hepatitis B vaccination (form provided)
  • CPR certification for health care providers through the American Heart Association, Red Cross or an organization approved by the program
  • Proof of Medical Insurance Coverage
  • HIPAA education

Individual clinical sites may require additional documentation, such as drug screening which varies in the time frame of being tested and entering the clinical setting; thus, the clinical coordinator will inform you as to when to have the test done. Clinical education requirements are at the expense of the student.
